Kato Doloi Spring and well walk to Kitries.
Approx 5 hours, depending on lunch, easy walking 10 km
From the junction of the kitries road to Kato Doloi you have the school facing you walk beside the school and follow the track down, keeping to the left you have an old iron water pump in front of you, go past this and you will be on a track that will emerge in about half a km close to a church. Go left past this church on your right will be an abandonded church follow the path past it and it bends to the left.
the path now becomes a rural track, keep going until on your left you can see a track taking you down into the small gorge. Keep to the gorge but look out for the old ruins and the wells on your left. Above the ruins runs an old kalderimi long overgrown.

A track or an old watercourse crosses the centre and then runs down the right hand side and eventually reaches a bridge.

Turn left here but do not go up the path veer right and in a few steps you will come into a little clearing and on your left will be a range of springs.
This is where the villagers of Doloi did there washing.
From here retrace your steps and go over the bridge, follow this path until you rejoin the rural track we left to go down into the ravine. Turn left here and following the track you will come to an abandonded cottage.
Look carefully behind the cottage for signs of the kalderimi not obvious at first but then it takes more shape.

From this kalderimi you have excellent views of the bay and the city of Kalamata.
The kalderimi ends at the track, turn left here and follow the track down to the coast road.
At the coast road turn left until you reach a church by the Kitries junction.
Take the path past the church, about halfway down you came across some ruins on your left, these we believe are all that is left of Kitries castle.

As you reach the bottom, you now have a choice of two excellent fish restaurants.
After lunch, remember not too heavy on the wine we begin the climb back to Kato Doloi. We will take the road out of kitries merely to view the house that adorn the road on the right as you climb.
We take the road up at the junction but shortly we take a left and follow the rural track, keeping a look out for the Aghios Paraskevi monastery.
It is worth taking the little detour that takes to Paraskevi.

Formerly a fortified monastery, note the ruins. Recently restored it will be locked but we know where we can obtain the key.
As we get closer to Doloi keep a look out on the left hand side for other spring. There are more than you think.
The road will take you through Kato Doloi and I can reccomend having a well earned beer with Augusta and Dino before you head for home.
If he is in the mood Dino will sing an old song or two whilst Augusta will sit and chat with you.
